T.S. Eliot wrote in “Little Gidding” that We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. Sometimes, the person we’re closest with can be the most difficult to comprehend. Lately I’ve been writing poems that reach back toward my mother, who died in 2012. Many of the poems arrived while I was hiking alone in Scotland. Like Cheryl Strayed in her Pacific Coast trek, it took solitude, as well as encounters with women across the Highland landscape who were mentors, guides, occasionally saviors, for me to begin to consider my mother’s life and my own as both a reaction to, and completion of, hers. My mother came out of that generation born in the Depression, their lives upended by the Second World War. Their thirst for experience, for travel, was whetted by the global upheaval – pins in world maps for the missing brothers, lett
Great tip. Lack of motivation is my biggest fail. I must do better.
ReplyDeleteHi Valerie! I'm visiting from She Writes. 'Just do it' is a perfect blogging tip.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Great tip. I usually have my blog open while I'm surfing the web and checking email. That way, if an idea/email/site sparks a blog idea, I can jot down a quick note and save it as a draft. Later, when I have more time, I come back and fill out the post. Gives me a list of ideas for blog posts and there's no more, "now where did I see that link I was going to post about?" lol!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great tip, especially for new bloggers.
ReplyDeleteHi! Hopping in from SheWrites. Thanks for the great tip and warm welcome :)
ReplyDeleteDitto - just doin' it! Great to meet you.
ReplyDeleteShe Writes hopper here. Good tip. That's how I started my blog actually (almost three weeks ago now). I kept mulling over starting a blog and one day I just DID IT. Now I love it.
ReplyDeleteAlso a She Write Hopper -

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on Blood Clay -- it sounds wonderfully layered.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip, and I'd add to it Yoda's admonition to Luke Skywalker: "Do or do not: there is no try." Thanks!
ReplyDeleteStopping by as part of the blog hop. I like your tip. It seems simple but you can't have a blog without following that advice.
ReplyDeleteI just wrote in my journal earlier today that I need to write "Just do it" and post it in my writing space where I can see it everyday. Seeing it reiterated here, makes me I think I absolutely need to do that. Maybe add some paint, collage, etc... I'll post a pic on my blog when I finally "just do it". Great advice! I obviously agree:)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of blogging, there's lot of room for new members.
ReplyDeleteJust do it is great advice! My stumbling block is lack time (and too many blogs...lol)
